Pi Day Celebration

Happy Pi Day! Today we celebrate Pi day because it's 3/14 and the approximate value of the number pi is 3.14... Pi is an irrational number that is derived from dividing the circumference of any circle by its diameter.

It was first calculated (approximately) by Archimedes around 250 BC.  Before Archimedes, others had approximated it up to a thousand years before, but not as closely as Archimedes did.  Today, we know the value of trillions of digits after the decimal and it is still being calculated!

Here are some pictures of our Pi Day Celebration (6th - 8th grades). Also, check out the VIDEO of the students singing an ode to Pi on Pastor Steve's Blog by clicking HERE!
